We’re both drawn the same way, But it seems I’ve been deceived By the beauty of far away sands. It’s an escape from where we made our plans. Even with the vilest things we said and never meant, The darkest of our days – they came and went, they came and went. The scenic route you take is long, But you’ve got the words on the tip of your tongue. And we try our best to stay composed; It’s what we feel versus what we know. Even with the vilest things we said and never meant, The darkest of our days – they came and went, they came and went.

“Save your sympathy,” she said. Nice gesture, but it’s wasted on the cold. Was that really me? A life we led as opposite, wandering souls. Do you hear the things you say when you are no longer in control? Missing memories of the future that never existed or could be foretold. You are a string of broken promises. Your actions scream your whispered best. And I am the backer of this tragedy While you hide the sins you can’t confess. You’re a stranger once again as black ink bleeds on white pages. The dam is failing because of this flood; Small cracks have been patched in stages. The coming fall signals the death of what looked to be greener pastures. This was nothing more than a chapter displaying our painted disasters. You are a string of broken promises. Your actions scream your whispered best. And I am the backer of this tragedy While you hide the sins you can’t confess. You made this town feel like a foreign land, And I admit I am a broken man. …a broken man. When home becomes a foreign land, I must admit: I am a broken man. …a broken man. You are a string of broken promises. Your actions scream your whispered best. And I am the backer of this tragedy While you hide the sins you can’t confess.

You carried the essence of springtime, But store-bought elegance can surely fade. A long-stemmed rose and some red wine, Seduction with a sharp knife and a soft-lip serenade. And I fell for a long time, As this nightmare let the sharpest teeth catch up to me. And see, I’ve been paying for my crimes, So I’ve had time to think, and there’s a lot that I’ve been wondering, like Do you even have the ability to feel love? To feel anything? Do you even have the ability to feel love? To feel anything at all? A blinding light found your secrets; A tattered box of photos left in a stranger’s home. Oh, so many things you can omit. Past fears of what you’ll reap all because of what you’ve sown. And you’re still dressed for the masquerade. Bright eyes showing warmth contrast with a heart so cold. And I’ve seen through the public charade, And I’ve got to let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go. Do you even have the ability to feel love? To feel anything? Do you even have the ability to feel love? To feel anything at all?

I couldn’t figure you out, so I left you alone, And this blistering doubt in the emptiest home Always finds its way back as if it never got lost, And this will that I lack means I’ll never stop paying the cost. Was it just the wrong time to watch the fires burn? And as the wind picks up, the directions turn. With these stakes in the ground, I have become disconnected To this ghost of a town, and the memories selected Only to push me around. Oh, now I get the feeling That the jewel in your crown is a beauty that’s fleeting. Was it just the wrong time to watch the fires burn? And as the wind picks up, the directions turn. And now you’re screaming at the bridges that you have burned. …you have burned.

I see your face inside every song, And the leftover pieces, and how they don’t belong. They lay scattered across the dreariest land That I still have yet to be able to understand. Can we start this over? The music always found the wind to push the sails Through much bigger storms, but all with no detail. But this time it was different because the waters won, And we watched as this tapestry, as it slowly became undone. Can we start this over?

The cameras flash when she smiles, But they fail to illuminate A private hell with a public face. And I could never relate. As caution hit the wind, The impact allowed the light in. It’s in the way that she moves, And when the right words find their way, It’s too late for anything to change. But don’t worry your pretty head; I’m not that easy to forget. I can’t be that easy to forget. I held right here and weathered the storm in my own way. The fictions she held dear allowed her the wings to fly away. I’m second-guessing our tale, An attempt to find what I can deem To be truth in this fabricated dream. And it’s amazing to see The warning signs that I ignored. Some things are beyond me to restore. But I should rest easy now; If this was karma at its worst, I could not imagine this reversed. So don’t worry your pretty head, I said, I’m not that easy to forget. I can’t be that easy, can’t be that easy to forget. I held right here and weathered the storm in my own way. The fictions she held dear allowed her the wings to fly away.

It’s the sidenote on the page Where truth can hide its face, But we both know what really happened here Before love was disgraced. Did we search for what we’d find Out of fear we had tried to hide? The flames that served to only purify Contrast with the night sky. Oh, I see the ghost of what we had become. Tell me everything. Tell me everything. Look for beauty in farewell, And in stories that words can’t tell. Honesty always resides behind the eyes; Know I’m wishing you well. It’s the years that robbed our will, Sorting through fantasy for what’s real. Decisions made on the paths we take Leave us standing still. Oh, I see the ghost of what we had become. Tell me everything. Tell me everything. Think of the time we lost becoming like silhouettes. It’s in the faith misplaced in sacred statuettes.

There’s a fear that I’ll fade from your memory Just as quickly as it took me to arrive. And like the fog of an early autumn morning, The mist fades with the time lapse of your eyes. And the sun shines just a little brighter With each second of your voice that I hear. And as the days go by in the still silence, I tend to dwell on that ever-increasing fear That I’ll fade from your memory Just as quickly as it took me to arrive.
